My journey to cloth Diapers!

When I was pregnant with my first in the fall and winter of 2004 I had noble ideas of cloth diapering. I asked on my birth board and was laughed at. I searched the internet and I found nothing. My mother who had cloth diapered discouraged me, but in the end it was her who bought me some gerber prefolds and some rubber pants.

When my son was born I waited until his umbilical cord fell of and his circumcision healed. We decided to try. We put on a diaper and we pinned and we put on his rubber pants and we were so proud of ourselves. Saving money and the earth at the same time what could be better???? And about 5 minutes later when we were covered in pee we were not so excited. I tried for about a week. And after changing 10 outfits a day, I gave up. The idea never left my head but it was put out of my mind.

18 months later my little princess joined our family and the thought of cloth returned. You see we had 2 in diapers and it would have saved soooo much money. I started to research again, by then I knew a couple people who cloth diapered and I looked into it but the start up cost was unmanagable.

4 years later when the wee one joined our family I looked again. And I found affordable cloth diapers so I bought some(sunbabys) and then Brad won a giveaway from Calley the Eco Chic! I took that as a sign.  Before my diapers came in the mail i research some more. I found out how to wash them  and how to take care of them.

We were in VT when the diapers arrived at my house and I could not wait!! I got them home and prepped them that night!! The next day I went back to work from maternity leave and left Brad home to figure out cloth diapers. Now these cloth diapers are not the cloth with pins and rubber pants. These diapers are pocket diapers that you stuff with a microfiber liner and they have fleece that is close to the babies skin.

Here we are 5 months later and I love cloth diapers more than I did when we started! About 3 days into it Brad made a comment how they are just as easy as disposables. He does not usually do the diaper laundry but it is sooo simple. And here are my favorite cloth diaper pics! Just because my first post in months should include pics of the most beautiful baby!!
