Birth Story

On Friday September 24th I woke up at 12:15 having contractions I could not sleep so I timed them. For an hour from bed, then I moved to the living room. They were from 3-7 minutes apart and lasted 50 seconds or so. At 2:30 Kylee woke up looking for me so I went upstairs and got her a doll and then laid back down. I woke up about an hour later during another hard contraction. I went into the bathroom and when i wiped noticed blood. I decided at that point to wake up Brad and call the Dr and my mom to come watch the kids. And then at 3:30 in the morning I realized the kids had school pictures!! So I sat down in between contractions filling out paperwork and writing checks, making sure the kids had cute clothes picked out and then calling my amazing friend Amanda to see if she could take the kids for the day so my mom could come to the hospital after the kids woke up.

It seemed to take forever for my mom to get to our house!! While we waited we tried to make sure we had everything we needed and that the kids were all set. We got to the hospital and luckily I had preregistered just the week before! I signed a couple papers in The ER  and then waited for the nurse from maternity to come get us.

We got upstairs and got into our room. They monitored me and the baby the contractions started to really hurt! The nurse checked my cervix and told me I was 4 cm and asked if I wanted an epidural. My answer was Heck YES!!!! So off she went to find the lab tech to get some blood and to start an IV and let my best buddy Wade know I needed his services! She had me get up and use the bathroom and then I sat back down and waited....and waited..... and waited it seemed like forever!! When he finally got their I was ready for him for sure!!

He placed the epidural and had me lay back down and as I laid back down I got a pain that traveled up my neck and into my jaw and neck! It was worse than the contractions!!! I told my buddy Wade and he gave me something to fix it! 15 minutes later the pain was gone, the nubain to counteract the itchiness I always get with the epidural was making me sleepy so I rested.

About an hour later I needed to pee the nurse came in and I told her and she almost had me get up I laughed how could I do that I could barely move my legs. Just then the midwife came in and introduced herself. She decided to check me and discovered I had gone back to 2! I was shocked and angry! She brought in an ultrasound machine to make sure baby was head down and that there was not a reason for the regression. What she discovered was that my bladder was so full the baby's head was pushed so high it was not putting pressure on my cervix. It was decided to give me a catheter. I was so glad I was numb!

I got my catheter and they increased my pitocin and left me alone for a couple hours. The whole time even with the catheter I felt like I had to pee it was driving me nuts. My mom got there somewhere during rest time. She sat and we chatted and I dozed in and out. At about noon I told the nurse I was feeling some pressure. The OB decided to come in and check me, I was 9 cm. He decided to break my water and then he left. 1 contraction later I said I needed to push. The midwife and 3 nurses came in (including the nurse who delivered Kylee and saved her life but that's another post).

They wanted to take apart the bed to get it ready for delivery and I said I did not think they had time. The midwife looked and said "The baby has hair" The next contraction I pushed and they made me stop. the had the cord wrapped around their neck.  They cut the cord and blood ended up on the wall behind the bed! And in the next push the baby arrived! I said "what is it" the nurse lifted up the baby's leg and said "It's a boy"

In that amazing moment I knew who HE was!! I had worried that not knowing who the baby was all pregnancy would make it harder for me to know who this baby was. They dried him off and place him on my chest and I stared at his beautiful face! He looked like Kylee! I kissed his little head and said his name Braeden!!! They took him over to the warmer and checked him all out and cleaned him up. His apgar scores were 9 and 9. He was perfect!! They brought him back to me and he was asking to eat within a few minutes. He latched on pretty quickly and ate for a few minutes. He was awake and alert for several hours just checking everything out!

I am so glad that The Lord chose him to join our family! He is a perfect fit! Caleb and Kylee adore him! He has everyone wrapped around his tiny little fingers. He is perfect!
